Do you think he/she will make a purchase? Of course not. In order to avoid this very common mistake, you have to pre-sell the affiliate product on your site, not sell it. Keep in mind, as an affiliate marketer you have to warm up the prospects and send them over to the actual sales page, not sell it yourself. This way you will be able to manage and keep the visitor's attention so they go through the whole buying cycle of being a prospect to a customer, rather than someone who just visited your website and left uninterested.

2. Common Promotional Material - Second in line for common affiliate mistakes is in the choice of the promotional material they will use. There are those who have others write their ads for them. That's right, a lot of affiliates just use the ads provided to them by the merchant. Instead of using their own personality and making unique ads, they just take the easy way. Now, nothing's wrong with these ads, they're well-crafted. However, when everyone uses the same ads, how can anyone be seen? This will dramatically affect your sales down the road. In other words, this is another mistake you want to avoid at all costs.

A third mistake is failing to assemble an e-mail list of your visitors.

Most of the visitors that hit your affiliate link won't be purchasing the product you're promoting, since it often takes more than one exposure to the offer to make the sale. If you aren't using an opt-in form on your website to collect names and email addresses of your visitors, you are losing an opportunity to make long term profits. When you start to build your own mailing list, you will be able to follow up with all of your subscribers by delivering real value, while building a strong relationship. That trust relationship will bring those customers back to you time and time again, ensuring you a steady stream of profit.
